Hi All. Sorry I’m late and I hope you had a fabulous holiday weekend. This is the second post in my series devoted to cultural Travelista destinations. During my studies to become a fundi (specialist in South African travel), I had the opportunity to learn a bit about South Africa as a travel destination.

Johannesburg, (aka Joburg), is a well traveled โ€˜hot-spotโ€™ for vacationers in the know. It is a highly frequented destination among jet-setters largely because of its art scene, luxury shopping and boutique hotels. There are also many pubs, gambling casinos, theatres and nightclubs that are available for tourists to try.

Consider visiting the Cradle of Humankind museum which was declared a World Heritage Site. The Cradle of Humankind is a must-see museum destination because it features rare, natural archeological artifacts that are of major historic significance to the evolution of humankind.

In September, Johannesburg comes alive with multiple cultural art fairs and festivals that Iโ€™m sure you wonโ€™t want to miss. One of the easiest ways to get around town is via the Gautrain which is Joburgโ€™s metro system. Youโ€™ll find that there are many stops along the rail line that will put you within a short proximity of all the great sightseeing destinations and wonderful shopping malls like Sandton and Fourways.

The FNB Joburg Art Fair is a pinnacle event in the contemporary modern African art world. Like Art Basel in Miami, the event is held annually and attended by artists, collectors and curators that come from all over the globe.

This year, the FNB Joburg Art Fair will be held from Friday, September 7 through Sunday September 9, 2012 at the Sandton Convention Center. Exhibitors will present submissions in a variety of modern contemporary formats like installations, sculptures, audio and video submissions, paintings and galleries collections.

The cost for a ticket to attend this event ranges from R100 ($12.60 USD) for a single day pass to R200 ($25.21 USD) if youโ€™d like to attend all three days. So go ahead Travelistas, get your โ€œart onโ€ at this exotic world destination. Hope to see you there.
