Oh to be a Luxury Travelista in Cozumel.  The beauty of the island’s white, sandy shores never ceases to amaze guests and visitors  alike.  This pristine jewel continues to be one of the brightest stars in the Caribbean collection.

Settled by indigenous Mayan inhabitants some 2,000 years ago, the name Cozumel is derived from the words Cuzam (which means swallow) and Lumil (meaning land of).  The Spaniards assigned the present day pronunciation of the name upon their arrival to the Yucatan Peninsula in the late 16th century.

Until 1961, the island was better known for being a quiet fishing town.  Then, Jacques Costeau the French explorer put Cozumel on the map by using it as his back drop to film many of his under water scuba adventures.
